A SMART Pedicure, also known as a Dry E-file Pedicure, is a waterless approach to foot care that uses specialized electronic files (E-file) and disposable abrasive discs to exfoliate and smooth the skin on the feet without soaking. This method is considered more hygienic than traditional pedicures due to the use of disposable files and the absence of foot baths, which can harbor bacteria. It's also often favored for its detailed cuticle cleaning and effectiveness in reducing calluses and rough skin, giving results that last 3-5 weeks.
The gel brands we use are all non-toxic, meaning 14 free of the most harmful ingredients commonly found in gel polish. Low-quality products with harmful ingredients paired with improper technique (such as under-curing) can cause contact dermatitis (an allergy to gel), which can cause irreversible damage to the client.
Appointments are highly recommended. Our salon operates by appointment only to ensure each client gets the time and attention needed for detailed work. Many people in Pittsburgh and the surrounding area plan their visits with us in advance (some book out recurring appointments per quarter) because of the demand for our services. While we do our best to accommodate, walk-ins are not guaranteed – our nail artists’ schedules fill up quickly. We recommend calling for same-day availability. A Russian E-file Manicure (also known as a European Manicure) is a technique that involves detailed cuticle work using an e-file with specific implements and bits. Structured gel polish is included in this manicure. This method results in an extremely clean nail bed and provides detailed polish that remains fresh for up to two weeks of wear. Illustrated Nails is the first and only certified Russian E-file salon in Pittsburgh. Russian Manicures take more time (1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours), but look more aesthetically pleasing and last longer. We clean all dead skin from the cuticle area to polish underneath, which is how they look fresh two weeks into wear. They can be worn for up to five weeks with no lifting or chipping. Cuticles will also be trained over time with the Russian Manicure to appear smoother and more hydrated. Our certified and trained technicians ensure this process is safe and gentle, giving you salon-perfect nails that uphold our luxury standards. A Structure Gel Manicure, on the other hand, is a dry e-file manicure with various bits (non-Russian technique specific) to provide faster results (1 hour - 1 hour 15 minutes) and DO NOT provide the same benefits of the Russian Manicure. Growth is noticeable faster (5-7 days in), cuticles usually come back drier, the structure appears "bulkier" or not as natural, and more.
